The Franklin County Snowmobilers Association
received a $165,000 loan from the Franklin County Local
Development Corporation for the purchase on a new groomer. The
popularity of Franklin County as a snow mobiler’s destination
is growing. The acquisition of their fifth groomer will keep the
County’s trail system in superb condition. Snowmobiling is an
essential part of our winter tourism economy, cited Neil
Seymour, Franklin County Director of Tourism, adding, “Having
well groomed trails is just as important as having snow.”
“This acquisition could not be possible
without the assistance of Franklin County Local Development
Corporation,” said Tom Peria, President of the Association. In
fact this is a the third time the snowmobiler’s association
acquired a groomer using loans funds from the LDC. “We strive to
do whatever is necessary to make the deal happen,” said Brad
Jackson, Executive Director of the Franklin County Industrial
Development Agency and Local development Corporation.
The Association received a $100,000 grant
from new York State to refund the Association for the purchase
of the groomer. “Once we purchase the machinery we can receive
the State’s refund,” explained Jerry Gilmet with the
Association. The flexible terms offered by the LDC will offer a
$100,000 Balloon payment when the association receives the award
from New York state and a four-year term loan for the balance of
$65,000.
The Franklin County IDA and LDC are as
supportive to the non-profits contribution to the economic well
being of Franklin County as it is of the private sector business
economy’s contribution. “I’m sure we will have a role in their
sixth acquisition,” said Brad Jackson.
