The Franklin County Local Development Corporation (FCLDC), in partnership with the Village of Malone, received a New York Main Street (NYMS) grant to have design guidelines created and up to five (5) facade recommendation studies for buildings in Downtown Malone.
Through this grant, we are offering assistance to prepare a study and drawings that show how your property could benefit from historically relevant façade improvements. The studies will aid building owners who are considering undertaking facade renovations and/or may be interested in potential future funding through the NY Main Street Program. In contributing to the creation of a more appealing, vibrant and pedestrian-friendly Downtown Malone, facade elements such as signs, colors, lighting, awnings, windows and doors, siding, and detailing all make a significant contribution to the character and value of your building and the identity of the community.
The completed studies will consist of a 1-2 page document that includes 1) existing condition photographs, (2) renderings of recommended improvements, (3) list or description of recommended improvements, and (4) concept level budget to complete the recommended renovations. The recommendations would aid in a future NYMS application and will be developed with State Historic Preservation Office standards in mind. The recommendations are generated from historic photos and are intended to restore or reconstruct the significant historic features of the original facades. The studies will be completed by In.Site:Architecture, an experienced architectural firm selected by FCLDC through a request for proposal process.
FCLDC and the Village is seeking letters of interest from owners of downtown commercial or mixed-use buildings that are in need of significant renovation and have the most potential and desire to apply for a NYMS renovation grant in the future. FCLDC and the Village will review and score the letters of interest and select five buildings that will receive façade recommendation studies.
To be eligible to submit a letter of interest, your property must be:
Privately owned (churches and municipal properties are ineligible)
A commercial or mixed-use building (residential only properties are ineligible)
Be located within the downtown boundary (please see map)
Current on all property taxes and special district fees
If you have NOT received an interest form via mail and are an eligible property, please contact Phil Hans at firstname.lastname@example.org or (518) 651-2868.
